From Der Spiegel:

… the Muslim Brotherhood does not recognize the legitimacy of the government, the constitution and the law. Whoever ignores that takes us to the gates of Hell, which Gaza has opened.”

Says an a government run Egyptian newspaper editorial. The quote is from an interesting article which more fully explores the links between HAMAS and the Muslim Brotherhood. The same Muslim Brotherhood with whom President Bush would have us openly cavort. The Der Spiegel goes on to muddy the waters about just what the MB’s committment to voting instead of violence actually is:

One of the leading figures of Islamic Jihad, the Egyptian doctor Ayman al Zawahiri, is now considered the textbook example of a member of the Muslim Brotherhood turned terrorist. Once the talented scion of a bourgeois family, as a student he was enthralled by the fiery writings of Muslim Brotherhood ideologist Sayyid Qutb, which would lead him to later become a mujahedeen in Afghanistan and the trusted lieutenant of Osama bin Laden.

The German magazine asks just what the MB’s commitment to peace really is. But this is the wrong question. The true question is, “Whether from violence or voting, what difference does it make?” The goal of the Muslim Brotherhood is Sharia law, and Islamic dominance. Whether that comes from ballots or bombs, it remains an grevious affront to western concepts of inalieable rights. From yet another Egyptian article quoted by Der Spiegel (and for which the article is named):

“For the Brotherhood democracy is nothing but a dance with the devil,” the paper wrote. “It is the means to come to power. Afterwards they will whip democracy and behead it with the sword.”
